Master 3 Methods to Choose the Right Diaper

With a wide variety of diapers available on the market, how can you pick one that suits you and leaves you completely satisfied?

In fact, when selecting diapers, there are three key aspects to focus on: material, three-dimensional leg cuffs, and waistband. If a diaper meets the standards in these three areas, it can generally be considered an excellent product.

Test 1: Material

Test Purpose: Assess softness, water absorbency, reverse osmosis, and breathability.

A diaper's material consists of three layers: the surface fabric, the core, and the backsheet.

① Surface Fabric

Since the surface fabric of a diaper comes into direct contact with the intimate areas of the body, where the skin is relatively delicate, poor-quality fabric can cause skin allergies.

Softness is the most basic indicator for judging the quality of the surface fabric. Wearing a diaper that isn't soft and comfortable will result in a highly unpleasant experience, not to mention discussing other functions of the diaper.

How to Test the "Softness" of a Diaper?

· Test Action: Touch with your hand and roll it up.
Touching the diaper directly with your hand provides the most intuitive feeling. If it feels soft and fluffy, it indicates decent softness. If it feels hard and rough, it's advisable to rule it out immediately.

Alternatively, roll up the diaper. If the curve is gentle, it means the diaper is truly soft.

② Core

The second layer of a diaper is the core, whose main function is to absorb liquid. This is a crucial function of a diaper. To evaluate water absorbency, focus on absorption capacity and effective absorption.

Absorption capacity refers to the amount of urine the core can fully absorb within a certain period. Effective absorption means that during the process of urine absorption, the urine won't seep back out. This requires that the skin in contact remains dry even when the diaper is wet. (Of course, even diapers with strong absorption functions should be changed regularly.)

How to Test the "Water Absorbency" of a Diaper?

· Test Action: Pour water.
Pour 500ml, 800ml, or 1000ml of blue ink into the diaper. If it absorbs all the liquid without any seepage, it's a qualified diaper.

How to Test the "Reverse Osmosis" of a Diaper?

· Test Action: Wipe with a tissue.
Use a tissue to wipe back and forth on the surface of the diaper that has just been filled with water. If the tissue doesn't get soaked through, it indicates good reverse osmosis.

③ Backsheet

To a large extent, the material of the backsheet determines the amount of air permeability and the strength of breathability. If a diaper doesn't have good breathability, even if it has strong water absorbency, it can easily make the skin feel damp and stuffy, leading to skin problems such as rashes and skin ulcers.

How to Test the "Breathability" of a Diaper?

· Test Action: Pour hot water.
Fully unfold the diaper and pour a cup of 150ml hot water on it. Then, cover the diaper over the mouth of a cup and immediately secure it with a rubber band.

Next, place another cup on top of the diaper. If water droplets appear relatively quickly in the cup, it indicates good breathability. Conversely, if the cup remains dry, it means the breathability is very poor.

Test 2: Three-Dimensional Leg Cuffs

Test Purpose: Achieve a snug fit and prevent leakage.

Three-dimensional leg cuffs refer to the areas on both the left and right sides of the absorption body. Their function is to prevent liquid from leaking sideways during any movement, thereby avoiding harm to the skin and the surrounding area.

How to Test the "Snug Fit and Leak Prevention" of a Diaper?

· Test Action: Place a coin.
The higher the leg cuffs, the better the leak prevention effect. Place a one-yuan coin on the inner side of the diaper. If the height of the inner side is taller than the one-yuan coin (first stand up the inner side), it indicates decent side-leak prevention.

Test 3: Diaper Waistband

Test Purpose: Evaluate elasticity and waistband size.

Although diapers have elastic waistbands, just like regular pants, they come in different sizes such as L, XL, and XXL according to different body shapes and weights. A waistband that is too large or too small will not only be uncomfortable to wear but also prone to side leakage, causing excretion to leak out.

How to Test the Diaper Waistband

· Test Action: Check the size.
The packaging of each diaper indicates the size range and the applicable user group. You can refer to this size data when making your selection.
